Joachim Baldauf began his journey into textile design in 1984 when he enrolled at Technikum Reutlingen. He completed his studies in 1987 and soon started designing textiles for companies such as Holzhauser Textildesign, Rueff Muntlix, and Stragapede Didra. His career took a creative turn in 1989 when he shifted focus to graphic design and art direction. Over the next decade, he worked with high-profile brands and publications, including Adidas, Cosmopolitan, Doc Martens, Levi’s, and Bertelsmann Music Group.
In 1992, Baldauf co-founded Boom Communication, a Munich-based agency, alongside Gabriele Grammelsberger and Dieter Brachtl. The agency became known for producing magazines such as *Nachtschwärmer* and *Lavabo*. By 1998, Baldauf transitioned into freelance photography, building a strong reputation in the industry by contributing to international publications and commercial campaigns.
Beyond his creative work, Baldauf has dedicated his talents to philanthropic causes. He has collaborated with organizations like Doctors Without Borders, the German Red Cross, and Dunkelziffer e.V., among others, using his photography to support various initiatives.
Between 1999 and 2002, he played a key role in the London-based magazine *Wallpaper*—shooting around 30 editorials and covers. In 2004, he partnered with graphic designer Agnes Feckl to establish the publishing house Printkultur, responsible for producing *Vorn* magazine and several books.
Since 2009, Baldauf has shared his expertise as a lecturer and guest speaker at various institutions, including the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design, the University of the Arts Bremen, and Berlin University of the Arts, among others. His career continues to bridge the worlds of photography, design, and education.

Torben Giehler
Torben Giehler was born 1973 in Bad Oeynhausen, Germany. He lives and works in Berlin, Germany. From 1995 to 1999, he was a student at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the New York Studio Program. After graduating, he moved to New York City, where he stayed until 2009. In 2000, Giehler had his first solo exhibition at the Leo Koenig Inc. gallery, which was followed by numerous exhibitions at galleries and museums around the world. In 2008, he was honoured with the Falkenrot Prize and an extensive solo exhibition at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin. Giehler’s trademark painting style revolves around abstract compositions of geometric shapes. He photographs his hand-drawn sketches and edits them digitally before creating large canvasses, often using vibrant colours. Giehler deconstructs cities and landscapes into grids that distil the three-dimensional depth and perspective into straight lines and coloured facets. That way, he manages to capture the impressions of mountains, streets, or buildings with just a few elements. Using many layers of transparent acrylic paint creates visual planes and spaces in which the eye can move around almost as it would in a virtual reality.
Through my paintings I try to understand and process our increasingly complex but also exciting digital world. I am interested how we are moving between the real and virtual world. Painting helps me to stay in the real world. – Torben Giehler
